The Top

Released

Recorded after a stretch where an initial breakup and a reconstitution led to hit singles like “Let’s Go To Bed” and “The Lovecats,” on The Top the Cure found themselves in the unusual position of being as well known for whimsically addictive pop efforts as much as full on fraught angst. So logically Robert Smith and company split the difference, where songs like the delicate rush of “The Caterpillar” and the sweet sway of “Dressing Up” rubbed up against blasting efforts like “Shake Dog Shake” and “Give Me It.”
