By 1986 the Cure had almost gone through several lifetimes in the space of a few years, but had also demonstrated an almost uncanny knack at creating memorable singles for just about all of them, including a slew of non-album cuts that had never been featured together. Standing On A Beach solved that problem perfectly, and while many more landmark chart hits were to come, it’s a perfect summary of the Cure’s early existence, with songs like “Boys Don’t Cry,” “Jumping Someone Else’s Train” and “Charlotte Sometimes” joining familiar album selections.
