Sonic Temple

Released

Now even fully on the long-haired late 80s metal train, at least in their own particular way – less Sunset Strip, more aiming for an all-consuming stomp and grind – the Cult matched up with producer Bob Rock for Sonic Temple, which to their credit really does sound like some massive ritual being recorded somewhere a lot of the time. “Fire Woman” was understandably the lead stomper, but credit to them for having the inevitable power ballad, “Edie (Ciao Baby),” be a salute to Edie Sedgwick, as well as a hell of a Zeppelin-level pound courtesy of “Soul Asylum.”
