Nothing’s Shocking

Released

Such was the essentially conservative discourse in mainstream rock at the time of Jane’s Addiction’s full studio debut that all the talk was about how the band was the second coming of Led Zeppelin, apparently only noting the loud volume and Stephen Perkins’s volcanic drumming. But Nothing’s Shocking was its own blend of intense sensibilities, at its best a collection of songs crossing goth, psychedelic, classic rock and more to create astonishing efforts like “Ocean Size,” “Mountain Song,” and the blissed rampage of “Summertime Rolls.”
