Michael Northam’s discography is like a globe that you could spin, and any place you landed your finger would be interesting. And while I often turn to his more even-tempered journeys (e.g., Automnal 2003), there’s something about the variegated nature of Molt And Anecdote that exudes peace. Recorded during a residency at Centrum in Port Townsend, Washington, the album’s three tracks weave a veritable tapestry of nature and nurture. Referential touchpoints include metallic protractions, forest chatter, and suburban play, ever poised on the edge of collapse until the final fade.
