Keith Jarrett: Ritual

Composer
Released

Ritual is the only solo piano album by Keith Jarrett on which he doesn’t appear. Here, pianist, conductor, and frequent collaborator Dennis Russell Davies plays the eponymous 32-minute piece penned by Jarrett. The composer’s characteristic language bleeds through at almost every turn, but in being committed to a score, it opens room for Davies to regale us with his exhortations. This profound outlier in Jarrett’s discography stands alone as a monument to its creators, who by the end leave pieces of themselves in each other.
