Message In The Music is a superb collection of funk, soul, disco, psychedelic and soft rock obscurities, all of which have been re-edited for maximum dance floor impact and DJ-easy-of-use by UK producer extraordinaire Ashley Beedle. Intros have been extended, percussion breakdowns have been stretched out and arrangements have been chopped and spliced to turn these various musical rarities into precise DJ tools. Standouts include Panama’s funky Latin take on the Doobie Brothers’ ‘Long Train Running,’ a sympathetic rework of Cymande’s gossamer-light ‘For Baby Ooh’ and Ruth Copeland’s storming take on ‘Gimme Shelter,’ but every track here is a winner.
