Nobody Told Me

Released

After the almost unthinkable misstep that was 1986’s The Epidemics, Indian violinist Shankar returned to form, showcasing his Carnatic vocals and virtuosic bowing in the company of his father and Indian violin pioneer V. Lakshminarayana (who would die not long after this session) and masters Zakir Hussain on tabla and Vikku Vinayakram on the ghatam. Squaring the circle are vocalists Ganam Rao and Caroline, the latter of whom also provides the foundational tamboura drone throughout. Lakshminarayana and Shankar are the brightest stars in this sky, their conversational rapport setting the tone for a passionate exploration of music in raw form.
