Ali Ghani and Mark Davies met at a mid-190s Iggy Pop concert, so it’s no surprise that their rave music owes more to in-your-face trash rock than to any house or techno subgenre. Their anthems “20,000 Hardcore Members,” “There is no Law” and “Temple of Dreams” threw everything and the kitchen sink at the populist rave formula: dystopian scifi exploitation movie samples (with a particular obsession with The Warriors), big fat riffs, screaming diva vocals, exhortations to go crazy, and – on “Temple” a whacking great sample from This Mortal Coil’s “Song to the Siren.” So it continues throughout this album, with added rock riffs to boot: absolutely shameless in all regards, definitely not for those shy of a salty, fatty, tangy musical diet, but for times when you’re looking for big, dumb, apocalyptic fun it’s still brilliant.
