Tribute to Selassie I

Released

Though a fairly prolific artist, Ras Imruh Asha flies a bit under the reggae radar, which is a shame: as Tribute to Selassie I demonstrates, he’s a master of classic roots reggae in a UK style that often brings to mind the late-1970s and early-1980s work of bands like Steel Pulse and Black Symbol. On this album his sound is frankly kind of spooky: listen to the way his strong, reedy voice weaves through the dubwise production on “Eastern Block” and “Jah Victory.” Note also his skill as a dub producer. Then look for the rest of his catalog. Seek, and ye shall find.
