Tradition in Transition

Released

For his 2009 Tradition In Transition album, Quantic put together an international ensemble of musicians, who produced a superb collection of nostalgic, percussion-heavy, dance floor-targeted Latin grooves, incorporating aspects of psychedelic funk, soul, jazz, Cumbia, Samba, Latin Boogaloo and more. At this stage in his career, it was not surprising that the result was this highly accomplished affair, evocative of the past but with enough stylistic cross-pollination to be more than simply a pastiche. Quantic’s DJ background is reflected not only in the music - which is inspired by a lifetime of crate digging and vinyl discoveries - but also in the programming of the tracks themselves, the balance of the whole album journey feeling much like a DJ set, taking in highs, lows, builds and drops. Likewise, killer beats and rock-solid rhythm sections form the backbone of all the tracks.
