This anthology of Léon piano works is full of polyrhythmic personality. “Tumbao” and “Momentum” have a sense of play that has one foot in Latin American dance and another in Euro-American modernism. Traversing as it does the length of Léon’s career, the album showcases the wide range of musical idioms in which Léon has worked, some amiable, some challenging (see “Rituál”). A sense of cacophonous joie-de-vivre, however, is never far from the surface.
