Stuntman, from 1979, is the fifth solo album by Tangerine Dream founder Edgar Froese. The opening title track, four minutes of fanfare-like melodies laid over a pulsing synth bass line, was released as a single, and it’s easy to imagine it as theme music for a TV show about a motorcyclist who travels the world doing good deeds and fighting crime, leaving town as mysteriously as he arrived. Its B-side, “Scarlet Score For Mascalero,” ends the album like moody closing-credits music. In between, we get four longer and more atmospheric tracks — Froese’s usual stylistic touchpoints (big anthemic chords, insistent though drumless rhythm) are present, so Tangerine Dream fans won’t be caught by surprise by anything here, but there are a few weirdo touches that give his solo work its own character.
