Strawberries

Released

Capturing a band in flux, with bassist Paul Gray at odds with Rat Scabies while Captain Sensible’s fluke solo career success had him starting to think of other paths, Strawberries is still a remarkable album, the band now settled into a comfortable spot where punk was a source but never a raison d’etre. Their goth edge reached new levels thanks to the astonishing “The Dog,” a wonderful interpretation of a character from Anne Rice’s Interview With the Vampire, but musically there was plenty of range from the raging “Ignite” to “Life Goes On”’s contemplation.
