Brian Eno’s departure and own solo career might have seemed like a potential death blow to Roxy Music, but Eddie Jobson’s violin work added an elegant and unsettled X factor to Stranded, while Bryan Ferry was now the undisputed core figure, his commanding suave persona in full flight. “Street Life” kicks off proceedings with another one of their lifestyle anthems, while “Mother of Pearl” balances full crunch with a striking coda that captured the Ferry rich wastrel persona perfectly. Elsewhere songs like “Amazona” and “A Song For Europe” kept the elegance intact.
