Produced by Willie Mitchell with the Memphis Horns in attendance, Peebles is in fine, raw, earthy form over the mid-and-uptempo tracks here which are all solid, early 70s Memphis fare: chunky horns, choppy guitar, church organ, blues piano and a swinging rhythm section. Peebles could exhort, scream or whisper with equal emotion, generally presenting a sassy, assured, powerful persona and she delivers heartbreak and redemption here with equally consummate ease.
