Never Too Much

Released

The 1981 debut from 80s soul kingpin Luther Vandross is a seven-track set of expertly played post-disco, from a transitional time in US R’n’B, just before digital technology revolutionised the sound of soul music. Every track here except one is written by Vandross, his unmistakable voice effortlessly exuberant, playful, smooth and intimate. The title track with its soaring melody and velcro-sticky chorus hook is a deserved classic. The only cover version is his epic take on Dionne Warwick’s ‘A House Is Not A Home’, a song Vandross turned into his signature live showstopper. Top-notch early-80s soul.
