Listen To The Rain

Released

This 1983 effort from Stephan Micus is poetry in aural motion. The Spanish guitar is present in three of its four meditations, while “Dancing with the Morning” pairs the ubiquitous steel-string with the suling, a bamboo flute often heard in gamelan ensembles of Southeast Asia. Other traveling companions include the tamboura (paired with shakuhachi to beautiful effect in “White Paint on Silver Wood”) and the dilruba (a bowed lap instrument from northern India). Despite a mournful cast, however, there is joy in the proceedings, each note the dash of a line leading us to undiscovered terrain.
