Kulma

This Finnish group started out as Panasonic, a trio. Then Sami Salo left, leaving Mika Vainio and Ilpo Väisänen to continue on. Kulma, their second album, required a name change after the Japanese electronics corporation said “Oh no, you don’t”; it was withdrawn and reissued. The music is ultra-minimal, but oddly human; it has the hiss and pop and relentless forward movement of techno, but the spaciousness and warmth of digital dub. “Hahmo” on headphones is like a retreat to the womb.
