Jasmine is a 2007 recording between pianist Keith Jarrett and bassist Charlie Haden that could have happened decades before. It was worth the wait, however, in terms of bringing that much more life experience to bear on everything they regard in this set of evergreen standards. Opener “For All We Know” is their calling card, never once faltering in what Jarrett calls the “dichotomy between control and letting it go.” And while upbeat turns like “No Moon At All” court the foot to tap, the ballads are golden. “Body and Soul” and “Don’t Ever Leave Me” are particularly remarkable.
