I Thank You

Sam and Dave released ‘I Thank You’ in 1968. The title track is a stripped-back take on the Atlantic soul sound, as is ‘Wrap It Up’ and ‘Ain’t That A Lot of Love’, all featuring Steve Cropper’s spindly guitar lines. ‘If I Didn’t Have A Girl Like You’ is a genuine deep soul classic and the album also includes one of Sam and Dave’s finest songs, the happy/sad ‘Everybody Got To Believe in Somebody’. As is often the case with 60s soul albums, there are a couple of filler tracks here but there are plenty of gems too.
