Arianna Savall, daughter of Jordi Savall and the late Montserrat Figueras, sings and plucks (she is also a virtuoso harpist) her way alongside singer, fiddler, and mandolinist Petter Udland Johansen in a program spanning centuries and genres. The album’s title refers to the areas of land bordering the North Seas, which were a lively trade route between the Vikings, Catalans, Scots, and Sephardic Jews. The troubadourial spirit of the music reflects this mélange of cultural influences in as many languages. Despite the artful selections from the past, it is the original material from Savall and Johansen that truly dazzles.
