Goebbels: Surrogate Cities cover
Released

Surrogate Cities celebrates the 1200th anniversary of Frankfurt, showing composer Heiner Goebbels at his exuberant best. The inaugural Suite for Sampler and Orchestra touches off a kaleidoscopic approach, weaving archival snippets of cantorial singing and live playing in a foreshadowing of his more recent A House of CallThe Horatian – Three Songs sets texts by Heiner Müller through the voice of Jocelyn B. Smith, whose delivery adds to the drama. This is followed by two pieces featuring vocalist David Moss, a warrior of emotional veracity perfectly suited for Goebbels’s delectable staging.
