Trumpeter/composer Jon Hassell’s second collaboration with producer Brian Eno continued his exploration of what he tended to characterize as “futuristic primitivism” — a unique musical genre characterized by tribal music from nonexistent tribes and environmental sounds from nonexistent places, heavily treated with computer effects. Hassell’s electronically modified trumpet contributes eerie smears of melody, and Eno casts everything into a huge sonic space.
