Even in the unusual world of late 60s/early 70s soundtracks, Dracula’s Music Cabinet is fairly out there. A soundtrack to a film that doesn’t actually exist recorded by a group of German library musicians in 1969, it’s a bonkers collision of kitchy muzak, jazzy lounge, psych and funky organ breaks that employs a frenetic, almost Kenny Everett-level of sound effects malarky to further ham things up. Car chases, murders, monsters and on Der Folterkammer des Dr. Sex — aka The Torture Chamber Of Dr Sex — more things that go bump in the night all crash loudly into the speakers. It’s high camp and daft as brush, but that’s largely part of the appeal.
