Boiling Wells (Demos 2019-22)

The Bristol, UK trio Jabu’s third album is more like a sketch for one, but a very intriguing one indeed. Boiling Wells absolutely shows that the broad-minded musical spirit of its hometown keeps making its own specific mark over the decades, with the shuddering echo and deep basslines of dub conjured up by Amos Childs shaping the mix of ghostly instrumentals and sweetly mysterious vocals from Alex Rendall and Jasmine Butt. Standout moments include the droning buzz of the title track and “Sweeping Path”’s beautiful and strange mix of sonic touches.
