Angles of Repose

Microtonal reed player Joe Maneri, along with son Mat on viola and Barre Phillips on bass, yielded studio magic when they recorded Tales of Rohnlief in 1998. For this equally sincere follow-up, the trio throws order as bread crumbs for the pigeons on its cover. Words are meager substitutes for the delicate dialogues they produce, the meanings of which beg repeat listening to fully appreciate. Here is music that grows not on but with you, working its way into the crevices of expectation and freezing to sever it completely. A heartfelt dream waiting for closed eyes and an open mind.
