Afro Futuristic Dreams

Released

On his fourth album with The Pyramids, septuagenarian jazz polymath Idris Ackamoor travels further out into the spiritual jazz cosmos. Afro Futuristic Dreams does largely what it says on the tin, exploring the astral plane further along charts mapped out by Sun Ra, Alice Coltrane and Pharoah Sanders, while also taking in journeys through Afrobeat, funk and Hendrix-esque psychedelia. It’s a mind-expanding trip and despite the hour plus flight time (the joyous communion of “Thank You God” clocks in at thirteen minutes alone) you feel back on earth no sooner than your feet left the ground.
