Brazilian psych rockers that you could picture headlining at a club in a really hip 60s flick, Firefriend have summoned over a dozen freakout sessions from the fuzz-drenched void, but they remain relatively unknown. Their fifth album’s as good a place to start as any – a little bit Velvet Underground, a little bit Loop, a whole lot of effects pedals. They never get lost in their own smoke, though. Their loony tunes vacillate between mellow, sinister, and otherworldly, but the songs remain contained.
